Det dav\u00e6rende ladestedet var en stor \u201dimporthavn\u201d under brennevinsforbudet som hersket fra desember 1916 til april 1927.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Av Svein-H. Strand)<\/p>\n<p>Vi kan forst\u00e5 denne virksomheten eller ei, utfra datidens sosiale forhold, men noen \u00e6re for stedet er det ikke akkurat tale om \u00e5 drysse over Son ved \u00e5 oppette et slikt museum.<\/p>\n<p>Faktum er at store deler av den voksne befolkningen i Son deltok direkte eller indirekte i ulovlighetene. Indirekte ved blant annet \u00e5 gjemme spritkanner i husene sine.<\/p>\n<p>Hetvinsforbud var det ogs\u00e5, fra 1921 til 1923, og t\u00f8rsten etter de sterke saker var minst like stor da som n\u00e5, selv om halve befolkningen i begynnelsen var for forbudet.<\/p>\n<p>Grunnlaget for den omfattende smuglervirksomheten var derfor sv\u00e6rt god \u2013 selv om faren for \u00e5 bli tatt b\u00e5de p\u00e5 sj\u00f8en og p\u00e5 land var relativt stor. Men det var ogs\u00e5 fortjenesten for dem som fikk sakene velberget inn til det store markedet i Oslo via landeveien.<\/p>\n<p>Store sjanser ble tatt: Det sies at smuglere i ro og fred losset kanne p\u00e5 kanne med smuglerbrennevin p\u00e5 brygga i Son. Et ukjent antall liter ble ogs\u00e5 h\u00e5ndtert over brygga i Kj\u00f8vangen nord for Son, og i bukter og viker andre steder langs Vestby-kysten.<\/p>\n<p>Forfatteren Arthur Omre (1887-1967), som bodde i Son en tid, var med p\u00e5 denne trafikken. Han var stadig p\u00e5 flukt fra politiet, og ble omsider tatt, d\u00f8mt og fengslet. Det er dette milj\u00f8et han skildrer i sin gjennombruddsroman \u201dSmuglere\u201d som ble utgitt i 1935 og vakte oppsikt.<\/p>\n<p>Mange omkom p\u00e5 sj\u00f8en etter forlis i fors\u00f8k p\u00e5 \u00e5 komme unna tollerb\u00e5tene.<\/p>\n<p>En folkeavstemming i 1919 viste at hele 62 prosent var for fortsatt forbud. Forbud mot brennevin og hetvin ble derfor stadfestet i lov av 16. september 1921. Hetvinsforbudet ble opphevet allerede i 1923. En ny folkeavstemming i oktober 1926 viste at flertallet, 56 prosent, n\u00e5 var mot forbudet.
