Fordelene burde kanskje v\u00e6re \u00e5penbare for de fleste, men jeg har googlet litt og funnet blant annet dette – fra Kommunal Rapport 05.09.1997:<\/span>
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

«\u00c5 ha bystatus gir ingen fordeler eller flere penger fra staten. I de fleste sakene med ny bystatus er det n\u00e6ringslivet som er drivkraften, og bystatusen blir brukt i markedsf\u00f8ringen av stedet. Men Askims ordf\u00f8rer Hans Jacobsen mener det ogs\u00e5 har hatt andre effekter.<\/p>\n

Bystatus en d\u00f8r\u00e5pner<\/strong>
\n– Vi var f\u00f8rst ute med \u00e5 f\u00e5 bystatus da dette ble fritt, og derfor fikk vi mye positiv omtale. Jeg mener bystatusen har v\u00e6rt en d\u00f8r\u00e5pner. Vi f\u00e5r v\u00e6re med i \u00d8stfold byoffensiv, vi blir h\u00f8rt, spurt og nevnt mer, sier Jacobsen, men legger til at dette er en f\u00f8lelse han har og at m\u00e5lbare resultater ikke finnes.<\/p>\n

Han mener kommunen kan opptre med mer tyngde, og at det er st\u00f8rre aktivitet rundt Askim.<\/p>\n

Etter Askim fulgte nye byer p\u00e5 rekke og rad. To kommuner har til og med f\u00e5tt to byer. Bamble kommune har f\u00e5tt Langesund og Stathelle, og Karm\u00f8y har f\u00e5tt Skudeneshavn og Kopervik.»<\/p>\n

«Bystatus er en status som ved lov<\/a> tidligere ble gitt tettbygde steder, som enten kj\u00f8pstad<\/a> eller ladested<\/a>, og som innebar s\u00e6rlige privilegier som for eksempel retten til \u00e5 drive handel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Med innf\u00f8ring av formannskapslovene<\/a> i 1837 ble det adgang for at steder med formell bystatus kunne danne egne lokaladministrative enheter, bykommuner<\/a>, og bli styrt etter formannskapsloven for byene.<\/p>\n

Fra da av ble begrepet bystatus i f\u00f8rste rekke knyttet til kommunale enheter som var styrt etter by-formannskapsloven.<\/p>\n

Fra 1996 er det ikke lenger noe formelt skille mellom by- og herredskommuner<\/a>, og Kommunal- og moderniseringsdepartementet<\/a> tildeler derfor ikke lenger noen kommune<\/a> bystatus. Dette er overlatt til kommunene selv.»<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
