Deretter kom han inn p\u00e5 Kunstakademiet (i 1922) og var der elev av Halfdan Str\u00f8m og Christian Krohg. I 1931 fikk han veiledning av Torstein Torsteinson, og noen \u00e5r senere var han elev ved S. Onsager og A. Svarstads malerskole (1933).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Han reiste s\u00e5, som mange andre kunstnere, til Paris. L\u00e6retiden hos Marcel Gromaire (1936) skulle bli betydningsfull for hans kunstneriske utvikling. Formspr\u00e5ket hans blir mer rensk\u00e5rent. Elevperioden hos den danske Aksel J\u00f8rgensen skal ha forsterket denne utviklingen.<\/p>\n<p>I lange perioder oppholdt han seg i utlandet, han bes\u00f8kte ogs\u00e5 Spania, Hellas, Itaila, Tyskland og Ungarn. Fra 1935 hadde han regelmessig separatutstillinger i Oslo, og han deltok p\u00e5 kollektivutstillinger, som for eksempel H\u00f8stutstillingen (jevnlig fra 1925 og til 1975).<\/p>\n<p>Han er blant annet representert i Nasjonalgalleriet og i Bergen Billedgalleri. \u00d8yvind S\u00f8rensen portretterte ham i 1959 (tegningen er gjengitt i Aftenposten fra 19.9.1959).<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f8vberg utviklet etterhvert et forenklet formspr\u00e5k hvor alle un\u00f8dige detaljer er sk\u00e5ret bort. F\u00f8rst og fremst gjengav han landskap, bymilj\u00f8er og figurgrupper. Han uttalte selv at Goya, Munch og Egedius var hans st\u00f8rste forbilder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sammen med sin danske kone Ragnhild, slo han seg ned i Son i 1944, i et skipperhus ved Minneparken (i Storgt. 45). L\u00f8vberg-maleri i privat eie i Son.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bildene hans er ofte erindringsbilder &#8211; gjerne slik han husket landskaper og andre motiver fra reiser i utlandet. Sjelden kan vi gjenkjenne konkrete steder og omr\u00e5der i Son, Mot Holmestrand (1974) er ett av de f\u00e5 unntakene. Og Holmestrand ser man jo godt fra s\u00f8ndre Son, m\u00e5 det tilf\u00f8yes. A. Moen har skrevet en artikkel om ham i Kunst og Kultur fra 1954 (s. 191-200), og ellers er han omtalt i mange avisartikler, for eksempel i Akershus Amtstidende fra 12.12.1980 (skrevet av T. Ekelund).
